Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that the Israel Defense Forces has completed its hold over the security zone in southern Lebanon following the capture of the strategically vital Ali Taher ridge. In a statement released Tuesday, Katz said the complex operation successfully cleared an extensive tunnel network that Hezbollah had used as a command center for attacks against Israeli forces and Galilee communities.
According to Katz, the decision to advance toward the Ali Taher ridge came after intelligence indicated the presence of Hezbollah command-and-control tunnels in the area. The operation followed earlier IDF maneuvers to the Litani River line and the capture of the Beaufort fortress, which established Israeli positions on heights overlooking eastern Galilee communities.
