The Israeli government on Sunday officially approved a comprehensive assistance and recognition plan for IDF reservists for the 2026 fiscal year. The 6.2 billion NIS ($1.7B) package represents a historic investment in the reserve force as the nation enters the third year of what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu termed the "War of Resurrection."

Prime Minister Netanyahu praised the dedication of the reserve force during the cabinet meeting, noting that foreign leaders are often shocked to learn that the majority of Israel's fighting force is comprised of civilians. "They give everything, and we need to give them everything," Netanyahu stated, emphasizing that the new plan prioritizes combat soldiers on the front lines.

Defense Minister Israel Katz highlighted a critical shift in policy: for 2026, the average number of reserve days will be reduced from 60,000 to 40,000 per day, aimed at easing the burden on families and the economy.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich assured reservists that the government is not waiting for the formal 2026 budget to be finalized. "We are implementing the plan immediately through the interim budget to ensure no family has to wait a single day for their rights," Smotrich said.

The Minister of Finance urged all reservists to ensure they do not miss out on their entitled benefits, noting that tools like "Fighter Cards" and vacation vouchers are "given by right, not by grace."
