Hadassah Hospital Braces for Influx of Injured

Dozens injured as Hospitals rush to treat victims of Jerusalem wildfire

A massive wildfire near Jerusalem has triggered widespread evacuations and multiple injuries, as emergency services scramble to protect lives and infrastructure. Hospitals, including Hadassah Ein Kerem, are on high alert and preparing to treat victims suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.

A rapidly spreading wildfire that erupted in the Eshtaol Forest near Mesilat Zion has triggered large-scale evacuations and left multiple people injured as flames barrel toward populated areas. By midday on April 30, 2025, the fire had reached Highway 1, Israel’s vital artery between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, forcing panicked motorists to abandon their vehicles and flee on foot.

Emergency services report that at least 12 individuals have sustained mild injuries from smoke inhalation throughout the unfolding disaster. Among those evacuated and treated are a 36-year-old man suffering from burns, a 34-year-old woman, and two infants, approximately one year old, all affected by smoke inhalation. All four have been transported to Shamir Medical Center (Assaf Harofeh Hospital) for further treatment, according to Magen David Adom (MDA) spokesperson Avraham Freund.

As the situation intensifies, Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center has activated emergency protocols to receive and treat additional casualties. The hospital has confirmed it is fully prepared to assist firefighting and rescue teams, including placing its hyperbaric chamber unit on high alert for smoke inhalation victims. "We are closely monitoring developments and remain in constant contact with police and firefighting officials," said Hadassah spokesperson Hadar Elboim. Although current reports indicate the fire is not approaching Hadassah Ein Kerem itself, hospital authorities stress that they are ready for immediate action if needed.

Throughout the affected area, over 120 firefighting teams, supported by 12 firefighting aircraft and helicopters, continue to battle the blaze. Evacuations have been ordered for several communities, including Neve Shalom, Latrun, Baqa, Mitzpe Harel, Nahshon, Canada Park, and now Mevo Horon.

In addition to civilian injuries, three firefighters have been hospitalized for smoke inhalation, and a Border Police officer sustained moderate injuries. Tragically, one firefighting truck was destroyed in the line of duty.

Authorities continue to urge the public to strictly follow evacuation orders, stay clear of affected zones, and remain tuned to official updates as emergency teams work tirelessly to control the expanding wildfire.
