Worshippers attempt rare Second Passover offering; arrested before completing ancient rite

This morning (Monday), several Jews were arrested on the Temple Mount after being caught trying to bring a live kid (goat) to the plaza, in an attempt to fulfill the commandment of the Second Passover, which begins today.
This is an unusual event, as it is apparently the first time an animal has been brought to the site for the purpose of offering a sacrifice. The police identified several suspects in the alleys of the Old City who raised their suspicion. At a certain point, the suspects began to confront the officers and attack them, and they were arrested by the police.
The Israel Police arrested two on the Temple Mount, and several additional activists were arrested simultaneously in an attempt to promote what they call the "renewal of the sacrificial service."
One of the suspects was caught by police while holding an animal that was concealed in a bag. The suspects arrested by the police were transferred for further investigation in the David area, and the animal was taken for further veterinary care.
The police stated: "The Israel Police operates in Jerusalem and in all security sectors, both openly and covertly, against anyone who attempts to disturb the order and act unlawfully. Additionally, we take any suspicion of animal cruelty seriously, regardless of the circumstances, and any harm or possession of animals contrary to the law and in order to disrupt the order and law in Jerusalem. We will continue to work to locate and address these offenses decisively and uncompromisingly, including investigating and arresting those suspects, until the law is fully enforced against them.
From the "Returning to the Mount" movement, it was reported that the detainees were allegedly assaulted violently by the police, as well as by Waqf officials and Arabs present at the scene. The movement praised the activists and stated: "We will continue to do everything we can to renew the work of victims by all means available to us."
