Israel folds to pressure: Lyrics of Eurovision song to be altered

After insisting that no changes would be made to the song, the KAN Broadcasting Corporation asked its creators to make adjustments so that Israel could participate in the event.

After weeks in which Israel's participation in the Eurovision 2024 competition was in doubt following the disqualification of the song submitted for the event, Israel is now giving in to the demands of the European Union.

The Israeli broadcasting corporation Kan 11, which is responsible for broadcasting the competition and sending the Israeli representative, announced that thanks to the intervention of President Herzog, Israel intends to take part and adapt the chosen song to the EU's requirements.

As you remember, the Israeli song "October Rain" was rejected on the grounds that it contains political messaging. After the Israeli union insisted that it not make changes to the song, President Herzog turned to the corporation's board and offered to make the necessary adjustments, which would allow Israel to be represented.

Following this, the corporation contacted the creators of the original song and asked them to readjust the lyrics. Along with the original song, the union also appealed to the creators of the song "Dance Forever" which came in second place, and asked them to make adjustments "while preserving the full artistic quality."

Israel's new song will now be chosen by the supervisory committee. The selected song will be revealed for the first time on a special broadcast of Kan 11 next Sunday (3/10/2024).
