Today (Wednesday), Hezbollah launched its most extensive barrage of rockets on Israel in a single day since the start of cross-border hostilities eight months ago, in retaliation for an Israeli strike that killed a senior Hezbollah field commander.
Sirens began sounding across northern Israel on Wednesday morning and continued throughout the day. The IDF stated that several rockets were intercepted, while others fell in open areas and caused wildfires.
Hezbollah responded with at least 17 operations against Israel, including firing guided missiles at an Israeli military factory and attacking military headquarters and surveillance stations, including Mount Meron. Security sources reported that approximately 250 rockets were fired at Israel throughout Wednesday, marking the most significant single-day barrage since the conflict began. For the first time during the war, the city of Tiberias was also targeted by Hezbollah.
The conflict between the Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel has been escalating since the Gaza war erupted in October. The Israeli strike targeted a command and control centre in the south Lebanon village of Jouaiyya, killing three Hezbollah fighters along with the senior commander, Taleb Abdallah.
Abu Taleb was described as the most senior Hezbollah commander to be killed during the eight-month conflict. At a funeral procession for Abdallah in south Beirut, a senior Hezbollah official vowed to escalate operations against Israel in retaliation for his killing, warning of further consequences for Israeli actions.
