The attack killed Master Sgt. (res.) Haim Kalomiti, 55, from Tzur Natan. Five people were wounded in total, including two in serious condition and three in moderate condition. One of the seriously wounded victims was the community security coordinator of Tzur Natan.
The attack began Sunday morning near Kochav Yair, when a terrorist driving a vehicle with a yellow Israeli license plate opened fire at people near a gas station. He then fled the scene and continued shooting along the road in the area, reaching Tzur Yitzhak and Sla’it.
Security forces launched a manhunt and eventually eliminated the terrorist in the quarries near Tayibe.
Later, police announced the arrest of another suspect believed to be connected to the attack, after receiving information about a man seeking help hiding. During the arrest, the suspect allegedly tried to attack detectives with a glass bottle, but the incident ended without injuries.
