Exploding pagers, Mossad techniques, Israel-Lebanon war

As broad as 'Operation Moked'; Sophisticated as in the elimination of Yahya Ayash

The scope of the beeper attack in Lebanon is reminiscent of 'Operation Focus' - the opening blow of the Six Day War. In sophistication it is a reminder of the elimination of Yahya Ayash. Now we have to make sure that we take advantage of it and don't let Hezbollah recover.

The pager attack in Lebanon shows that Israel, if it is behind the operation, also knows how to initiate and on a huge scale. The scope of the operation is reminiscent of 'Operation Moked' - the opening blow of the Air Force in the Six Day War, in which Egypt's airports were destroyed in a surprise attack by Air Force planes. The simultaneous attack caught the Egyptian Air Force off guard, and most of the air force was destroyed while it was still on the ground. After that came additional waves of attack, in Jordan and Syria, and the Kray attack, but the war was already decided with the opening blow.

The sophistication of the operation is reminiscent of the assassination of the engineer Yahya Ayash, the head of the Hamas sabotage unit, and the one who developed the suicide bombing method in the 1990s. Ayyash was killed by an explosive phone that exploded near his head while he was talking to his father. The ability of the Shin Bet at that time, to insert a captured phone into a senior member of Hamas's military arm, showed the capabilities of the organization. Todays attack method was from the air by a missile from a fighter jet.

Let's go back to Lebanon, the large-scale operation in which hundreds and maybe even thousands of Hezbollah operatives were attacked at the same time, using a simple and innocent device that each of them carries in their pocket. The horror scenes from the hospitals show the quantity and quality of the injuries, so it can be said that Hezbollah's chain of command and operations was damaged and maybe even silenced by this surprise attack. The slap in the face received by Hezbollah today reverberates throughout the Arab world. The rest of the organizations, and also the heads of state of the axis of evil will now look twice at any phone or other device they hold in their hand, for fear that it might explode on them at any moment.

Now the important point is what's next: do we continue the momentum like in the Six Day War, or wait for the enemy's capabilities to be restored, like in the elimination of Ayash.
