Oops, our bad: "Hostages ribbon" turns out to be random contrails

A smoke trail made in the sky by IDF aircraft, which appeared to be a hostages' ribbon, was apparently created unintentionally by a patrol craft.

A short time ago today (Monday), the IDF responded to reports of an Air Force contrail which appeared in the shape of a hostages campaign ribbon, implying that the IDF was taking a political stand on a contentious issue.

In its statement, the IDF said that following an investigation within the Air Force, it turned out that an intelligence gathering plan was operating in the area to discover the drone thought to be launched from Yemen, which later turned out to be a ballistic missile and which was intercepted successfully.

The craft's patrol route and weather conditions created the trails seen in the skies, and due to the plane's high altitude in differing levels of condensation and high western winds, the result was the unique trail.

The IDF said that the patrol route was a routine one, and that the trail was not created for any particular purpose, let alone a political one.
