This morning (Monday), the Knesset Finance Committee approved an additional 28 million NIS for hesder yeshivahs for 2024, an addition of 50% in the Defense Ministry's participation in the budgeting of hesder yeshivahs.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich took pride in this budgetary addition, which was supported by some MKs in the opposition, for the yeshivah system which has combined military service and Torah learning for over half a century.

Smotrich said that "I am happy and proud with the significant increases for the enlisted yeshivahs. The members of the hesder yeshivahs are the spearhead of our soldiers and unfortunately the hesder yeshivahs also paid a very heavy price in the Iron Swords war.

"The soldiers of the hesder yeshivahs are on the battlefield in disproportionate numbers and unfortunately this year also in the cemeteries."
