When will we see snow?
Intense winter storm Coral is on its way to Israel: Here's what to know
Israel is not used to extreme cold, and especially this year with the very limited rainfall, it's been a quite a mild winter. But that's about to change,

The Ministry of Welfare and Social Security has released detailed guidelines for the public as Israel prepares for the approaching 'Coral' winter storm. The severe weather system is expected to bring significant temperature drops, ice, and snow to multiple regions across the country by the end of this weekend and early next week.
The Ministry's Community Work Division emphasizes both individual preparation and community cooperation. Residents are urged to prepare emergency kits containing essential supplies for several days, including water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, battery-operated radios, extra batteries, warm blankets, winter clothing, and first aid supplies. The Ministry also recommends maintaining an easily accessible list of emergency contacts, including family members, healthcare providers, and local authorities.
Home Infrastructure Preparations
Property owners and residents should take immediate steps to weatherproof their homes:
- Verify heating systems are functioning properly
- Ensure roof integrity and window sealing
- Clear gutters to prevent ice and snow accumulation
- Inspect sewage systems
- Identify locations of nearby community shelters
Community Support Network
The Ministry particularly emphasizes the importance of establishing strong community networks before the storm hits. Special attention should be given to vulnerable populations, including elderly residents, people with disabilities, and single-parent families. The guidelines recommend creating building or neighborhood WhatsApp groups to facilitate real-time information sharing and mutual assistance.
Utility Management
To prevent potential power grid overload during the extreme weather, the Ministry advises conservative use of electricity and water. Residents are warned against operating multiple high-power electrical devices simultaneously.
Emergency Response
Municipal authorities have activated their homeless outreach programs, with social service teams conducting patrols to offer shelter accommodations that include hot meals, shower facilities, and lodging for homeless individuals.
For emergency assistance or additional information, residents can contact:
- Ministry of Welfare and Social Security Emergency Hotline: 118
- Municipal Emergency Hotline: 106
- Local emergency response teams (TZACHI or TZACHASH) where available
The Ministry stresses that community vigilance should continue even after the storm passes, with residents encouraged to check on neighbors and report any storm-related damage to local authorities.
