Bezalel Smotrich: UN Human Rights Council spreading blood libels

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich issued a harsh rebuke today (Thursday) against the UN Human Rights Council for releasing a report claiming Israel engaged in sexual violence and genocide during its war against Hamas.

In his statement, Smotrich said:

"The United Nations Human Rights Council has once again proven that it is an entity that has turned antisemitism and lies into a way of life and a despicable propaganda tool. While Israel defends its citizens and fights against murderous, institutionalized, violent, and boundless radical Islamist terrorism that seeks to destroy it, this body chooses to spread false blood libels reminiscent of dark periods in history. The Council has no connection to human rights—it is a cynical, hypocritical, antisemitic, and anti-Israel incitement machine.

"The Human Rights Council is a morally bankrupt institution that should be dismantled. Every nation that respects itself and the values of democracy must act to bring this about."

MK Yuli Edelstein, Chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, also released a rebuke of the report:

"There are no human beings in the UN Human Rights Council. Certainly not that deranged woman from South Africa, Navi Pillay. This is the same delusional antisemite who accused Israel of war crimes because Israel didn’t provide the Palestinians with Iron Dome systems! She’s the one, the disturbed spirit behind the current report.

"The UN has long since become a plaything in the hands of radical Islamists and death-obsessed fanatics. The entire UN, with all its branches and councils—that same UN established to prevent wars and crimes—has been hijacked by those very Islamists and turned into a weapon in a war of darkness versus light. But, as always, the light will prevail. We’ve already kicked UNRWA out of here, and the days of that despicable body, which flaunts the ridiculous title 'Human Rights Council,' are nearing their end. We will fight these vile and delusional organizations in every way, in every place, and with the help of all our enlightened allies who are fed up with funneling money into the global hate hub known as 'the UN.'"
