A combined intelligence and police operation has resulted in the arrest of an Israeli woman from Nazareth on suspicion of committing severe security offenses. Following an investigation by the Shin Bet and the Northern District’s central unit, officials revealed that the woman allegedly photographed sensitive strategic sites and collected intelligence on a former high ranking member of the security establishment.

The investigation found that the suspect transferred this sensitive information to hostile entities in exchange for payments made through a digital wallet.

Security officials emphasized that the gathering of information on specific individuals and sensitive locations poses a direct threat to the safety of state personnel and national security.

A Growing Trend of Domestic Espionage

Since the outbreak of the war against Iran, Israeli security forces have seen an increase in attempts by foreign intelligence agencies to recruit local citizens. This arrest is the latest in a series of cases involving Israelis suspected of spying for Tehran.

Authorities noted that in many of these instances, the recruits are young individuals or people facing severe financial hardship. Driven by a desperate need for money, these citizens are often lured into high risk activities that include treason and the betrayal of state security.

Intelligence officials in Israel continue to warn the public against engaging with anonymous entities online that offer large sums of money for seemingly simple tasks, as these are often covers for foreign espionage operations.
