Election Petition

Petition Seeks to Bar Ben-Gvir from Ballot

Bogie Ya'alon and Zehava Gal-On file petition to disqualify Jewish Power party and its candidates, calling them racist and violent successors to banned Kahanist movement

Itamar Ben-Gvir

A petition demanding the disqualification of Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Knesset members Tally Gotliv and Limor Son Har-Melech, party candidate Hanamel Dorfman, and the entire Jewish Power slate from the upcoming elections was filed Monday with the Central Elections Committee.

The petition was submitted by the Zulat organization for equality and human rights, headed by former Meretz MK Zehava Gal-On, along with several public figures including former IDF Chief of Staff Moshe "Bogie" Ya'alon, former Health Minister Yael German, and former Public Security Minister Omer Bar-Lev.

Filed through attorney Gilad Barnea, the request invokes Section 7A of Basic Law: The Knesset. The petitioners argue that the candidates and party systematically incite to racism and work against Israel's democratic foundations in a sustained and deliberate manner.

According to the petition, Ben-Gvir, Son Har-Melech, Dorfman, and Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) represent a continuation of the banned Kahanist movement, which was previously disqualified for racism. The petitioners claim they promote an ideology seeking to exclude Arab citizens, harm their rights, and deny them equality and dignity, a worldview that places Jews above Arabs and fuels hatred, racism, and violence.

The petition further alleges that MK Tally Gotliv goes beyond criticism of the judicial system, actively promoting a fundamental rejection of court authority and the obligation to obey its rulings. According to the petitioners, her positions amount to dismantling the rule of law, weakening separation of powers, and transforming majority rule into unlimited force.

Attorney Gilad Barnea stated in the petition: "We cannot wait for the moment when there will be no one left to defend democracy. The Elections Committee cannot allow those who incite to racism and undermine the foundations of democratic governance to enter the Knesset and use it to realize their goals."

The petitioners call on the Elections Committee to hear the respondents, accept the position of the Attorney General, and disqualify the candidates and the Jewish Power list from competing in the upcoming elections.
