Itai Regev, who survived months in Hamas captivity, has given harrowing testimony about the moment a terrorist pressed a gun to his head, and the tefillah he turned to in that instant. Regev shared the account in the new season of the programme Goalstar, broadcast on HOT.

"The terrorist put the barrel of the gun inside my head," Regev recalled. In those moments, he said, he turned to prayer: "I started saying 'Shir Lamaalot.'"

Regev said that after a short time, the terrorist pulled the weapon away. "After two minutes the barrel came out of my head. I felt that Hakadosh Baruch Hu heard me, that He lifted the gun."

In recent months, several Hamas commanders involved in holding hostages have been eliminated. In August, the IDF killed Mohammed Mushtaha, a senior company commander in the Shati battalion who held seven hostages and took part in the October 7 invasion. At the end of September, Mohammed Hamed Mohammed Gabain, a commander in Hamas's military wing who was involved in holding nine Israeli hostages, was eliminated.
