Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, the IDF Chief of Staff, arrived at Central Command for a situational assessment, where he reviewed the security posture in the field and examined the readiness of forces for combat scenarios. But he also used the visit to condemn what he described as a pattern of violence against innocents.
In remarks delivered during the visit, Zamir addressed the security challenges in the sector and the steps being taken in response: "In order to enable better operational control in the field, we have reinforced the order of battle across all sectors, including the deployment of Division 98 to the area to strengthen security and stability in the sector. We have increased forces and raised the level of readiness, and we continue to prepare for a situation in which they will try to surprise us. In this sensitive period, we must maintain alertness and readiness in every arena, preserve freedom of action, and thwart threats quickly. We are pursuing and fighting terror everywhere. The IDF is at high readiness to move to broad offensive activity against any element that tries to harm Israeli citizens."
