Police, Border Police and air units sweep olive grove after report of masked man in army fatigues; Shin Bet joins search • Public urged to stay alert
Israeli police, Border Police fighters and volunteer security teams are conducting sweeps in an olive grove near Kfar Qara, in central Israel, following a report of a suspect believed to be armed.
In an unusual public alert issued around 10:30 Friday morning, police said the suspect was wearing IDF uniform and a face covering. The search is being carried out with the assistance of the Israel Police air unit.
Police said forces are sweeping the area on the ground and from the air. The public has been asked to remain alert, report any suspicious individuals to police, and follow official police updates.
It is rare for police to issue a public statement during an active manhunt, detailing the suspect's description and calling on the public to stay vigilant. The search is ongoing.
Update — 11:00: New details indicate the suspect was spotted sleeping in the olive grove, masked and dressed in IDF uniform. He fled on foot, and the Shin Bet has joined the search.
