Gap Between Blocs Closing

Amit Segal: Netanyahu Made “Serious Mistake” Attacking Winter

Amit Segal says the gap between Netanyahu’s bloc and the change bloc is closing, and that attacking Ofer Winter was a serious mistake.

With just a week until the Knesset election, political commentator Amit Segal says the race is tightening. He told 103FM radio on Tuesday morning that he sees worrying trends for the right-wing camp, along with tactical errors by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to Segal, the gap between Netanyahu’s bloc and the “change” bloc has been narrowing in recent days, leaving the outcome fluid and highly uncertain.

Segal also criticized the Likud campaign’s strategy toward smaller right-wing parties. He argued that Netanyahu made a serious strategic mistake by launching a head-on attack on Ofer Winter and his party, Amcha Yisrael. In his view, the attacks pushed the party below the electoral threshold, putting thousands of right-wing votes at risk of being wasted.

Segal also addressed the far-right Noam party’s refusal to drop out of the race. He said Noam is choosing to run to the end knowing it may waste votes. Its real goal, according to Segal, is to build leverage for future elections: demanding a reserved spot on a larger party’s list in exchange for not running next time.

Israelis go to the polls on October 27.
