Israel Elections 2026

Winter promised to drop out: Likud senior

A week before the election, Yaakov Bardogo reveals that Amcha Yisrael chairman Ofer Winter pledged to withdraw if he doesn't clear the threshold in three polls

With one week left until Israelis go to the polls, pressure is mounting inside the right-wing bloc over the question of wasted votes. Yaakov Bardogo, a Likud Knesset candidate, has issued a sharp call to Amcha Yisrael party chairman Ofer Winter, urging him to honour a promise and withdraw from the race to prevent damage to Likud and the right-wing bloc.

In an interview with Walla, Bardogo revealed that he met with Winter for an extended conversation in his office about a month ago. According to Bardogo, Winter gave him an unequivocal commitment during that meeting: if his party does not show stability in the polls heading into election day, he will pull out.

"He told me: 'If in the final week I don't cross the threshold in at least three polls, I'm out,'" Bardogo said. The Likud official spelled out what that step would mean for the right-wing bloc: "If Winter drops out, at least two more mandates, if not more, immediately go to the right-wing bloc."

Bardogo stressed the danger posed by parties that continue to run despite failing to cross the threshold, and warned that according to current data, at least four mandates belonging to Netanyahu's bloc are being burned below the required threshold, a loss that could decide the entire election.
