MK Simcha Rothman, chairman of the Knesset Constitution Committee and a member of the Central Elections Committee, was interviewed Thursday on Galei Israel radio and addressed the committee chairman's call to open a probe into suspected vote-buying, saying there may be no choice but to hold new elections.
In his remarks, Rothman said: "It's early to know, but if there are forgeries here or vote-buying or foreign influence on a wide scale, there may be no choice. When you're talking to me about three hundred thousand votes that were moved to vote under foreign influence, that's not something you can fix by disqualifying polling stations or repeat votes."
"You'll have to think about new elections in the entire country. That's a very, very big event and it's early to talk about it because it really depends on the evidence," he added.
Rothman attacked the left, saying: "It's not clear to me when Sohlberg joined the poison machine... I expect all the people who lectured us for four years about how they're going to steal elections here, that when elections are stolen they'll open their eyes and it won't be a project only of the national camp."
"Those who shouted for four years about 'Qatari agents', foreign influence in elections suddenly doesn't interest them," he said. "One of the biggest sponsors of the Muslim Brotherhood is Qatar. The threads lead there, but it could equally be Turkey, the global Muslim Brotherhood. Certainly Iran could be in this event as well, but it's not for me to decide, not for me to determine."
