Iran war heats up

British Nuclear Submarine HMS Anson Arrives in Northern Arabian Sea Amid Fears of All-Out War with Iran

The UK sends its advanced nuclear-powered submarine to the region following Iran's missile strike on Diego Garcia. Armed with Tomahawk missiles, the Astute-class vessel signals a major shift in British military posture as tensions with Tehran reach a breaking point.

The United Kingdom has quietly deployed one of its most advanced nuclear-powered attack submarines to the Arabian Sea as tensions with Iran reach new heights following Tehran’s long-range ballistic missile strike on Diego Garcia.

According to the Daily Mail, citing military sources, HMS Anson, an Astute-class submarine, has taken up position in the northern Arabian Sea. The vessel is armed with Tomahawk Block IV cruise missiles capable of precision strikes deep inside enemy territory, along with Spearfish heavyweight torpedoes.

HMS Anson departed from Perth, Australia earlier this month and sailed approximately 5,500 miles to reach the strategically sensitive region.

The deployment significantly enhances Britain’s ability to conduct long-range strikes against Iranian targets while remaining submerged and highly difficult to detect. Any launch of Tomahawk missiles would require direct authorisation from Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

This move comes less than 24 hours after Iran launched intermediate-range missiles at the UK-US base on Diego Garcia, a demonstration that dramatically extended Tehran’s proven strike range and placed UK cities potentially within reach. The timing underscores growing Western concern over Iranian aggression and threats to key shipping lanes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

The UK Ministry of Defence has declined to comment on the submarine’s location, in line with its long-standing policy of not disclosing operational details of its nuclear submarine fleet.

The arrival of HMS Anson signals that Britain is strengthening its forward military posture in the region alongside its American allies.
