Another suspected arson attempt was reported overnight in Golders Green, one of London’s main Jewish neighborhoods, after a suspect allegedly set fire to the stairwell of a residential building.

According to local residents who reported the incident to Shomrim, one of the building’s tenants noticed flames in the stairwell and managed to extinguish the fire quickly before it could spread. Local police were called to the scene and opened an investigation.

No injuries were reported, but the incident has raised renewed concern in the Jewish community, coming after a series of recent events in and around Jewish areas of London.

Several weeks ago, a major fire broke out at the well-known kosher supermarket Kosher Kingdom in Golders Green, with dozens of firefighters battling flames that spread through a storage area attached to the store.

The latest incident also comes amid growing concern over antisemitic attacks in Britain. Over the weekend, a German national was arrested on suspicion of attacking two Jews outside a synagogue in nearby Hendon, as worshippers gathered for Shavuot. Congregants managed to subdue the attacker until police arrived.

Shomrim said it had received reports from local residents following the Golders Green fire and urged the community to remain alert.

The quick response by the tenant prevented the incident from becoming far more serious. Police are now investigating the circumstances of the fire and whether it was connected to the broader wave of antisemitic incidents affecting Jewish communities in Britain.
