IAF Destroys Iranian Helicopter as Strikes Spread

According to the IDF, the aircraft was an MI-17 helicopter belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The strike is part of a broader campaign aimed at degrading Iran’s air force capabilities and expanding Israeli air superiority in the region.

The Israeli Air Force struck and destroyed an Iranian military helicopter overnight at Sanandaj Airport in western Iran, the military said Thursday, as Israel continues to target Iranian air assets.

According to the IDF, the aircraft was an MI-17 helicopter belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The strike is part of a broader campaign aimed at degrading Iran’s air force capabilities and expanding Israeli air superiority in the region.

The military said operations have intensified across western Iran in recent days, focusing on infrastructure tied to missile launches, drones and air defenses.

The strike follows a wave of attacks earlier this week in which Israeli jets targeted more than 200 Iranian sites in western and central parts of the country. Those targets included ballistic missile launchers, UAV facilities, air defense systems and weapons production sites.

Separately, reports have indicated that Israel may have struck Iranian military targets in the Caspian Sea for the first time since the start of Operation “Roaring Lion,” though Israeli officials have not confirmed those claims.

The latest strike underscores the ongoing effort by Israel, alongside the United States, to weaken Iran’s military capabilities and limit its ability to conduct further attacks as the conflict enters a prolonged phase.
