Tensions between the United States and the Islamic Republic reached a fever pitch Sunday after Tehran issued a "14-point plan" to end regional hostilities, a proposal President Donald Trump suggested is likely dead on arrival.

The diplomatic standoff comes as the Trump administration reviews Iran's response to its own 9-point peace framework. While the U.S. proposed a two-month ceasefire, Iranian state media outlet Tasnim reported that Tehran is demanding a much tighter 30-day window to settle all matters.

The Iranian Demands

Tehran’s 14-point counter-proposal includes sweeping demands that challenge the U.S. military presence in the Middle East. Key stipulations include:

Speaking to reporters at the White House, President Trump expressed deep skepticism regarding the proposal. He emphasized that the Islamic Republic has yet to face sufficient consequences for its actions over the last 47 years.

The President took a particularly hard line on Iran's remaining military infrastructure. Addressing reports that Iran retains roughly 15% of its missile production capacity, Trump stated, "I would like to eliminate that... that would be a start for them to rebuild it, and yes, I would like to eliminate that."

The Threat of Escalation

When asked directly if the United States would resume military strikes against Iranian targets, the President did not rule out the possibility.

"I can't say that on paper," Trump told reporters. "If they misbehave, if they do something bad... but right now, we’ll see. It’s a possibility that could definitely happen."

With Tehran "awaiting an official U.S. response," the window for a diplomatic resolution appears to be narrowing as both sides reinforce their red lines.
