Mountains of Fire: Why Israel’s Iran War Just Shifted from Days to Weeks
Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, said the military campaign against Iran’s missile launch infrastructure could take weeks rather than days due to the way the systems have been deployed. Leiter said Iranian forces had dispersed many of their missile launchers across mountainous terrain, placing them far apart and often concealing them in remote areas.

Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, said the military campaign against Iran’s missile launch infrastructure could take weeks rather than days due to the way the systems have been deployed.
Speaking about the ongoing operation, Leiter said Iranian forces had dispersed many of their missile launchers across mountainous terrain, placing them far apart and often concealing them in remote areas.
“The Iranians hid the launchers sparsely in the mountains. That makes it difficult for us,” Leiter said.
Because of that deployment strategy, he added, locating and destroying the launchers is a slower process.
“Therefore the operation will continue for weeks, not days,” Leiter said.
Israeli officials have repeatedly emphasized that one of the central goals of the campaign is to destroy as much of Iran’s ballistic missile launch capability as possible.
Military leaders say reducing the number of operational launchers is critical to limiting Iran’s ability to continue firing missiles toward Israel and other regional targets.
