A 33-year-old American man was arrested in downtown Athens, Georgia, over the weekend after allegedly assaulting a student while dressed in a complete Nazi SS uniform featuring a prominent swastika armband. The incident, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, has sparked outrage, particularly within the local Jewish community.
The suspect, identified as Kenneth Leland Morgan, was reportedly trying to enter Cutters Pub late Thursday night or early Friday morning when he was confronted by patrons who blocked his entry.
Aggravated Assault and Battery Charges Filed
According to updated information from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the confrontation escalated sharply when Morgan, who was never allowed inside the bar, allegedly attacked a University of Georgia student.
The student reportedly attempted to intervene after noticing Morgan in a "yelling match" with two smaller women. When she stepped in as a barrier, Morgan allegedly swung a large glass beer pitcher into her face, breaking her nose and requiring multiple stitches. The victim described Morgan as "grinning ear to ear the entire time, including while assaulting me."
Morgan was booked into custody on suspicion of one felony count of Aggravated Assault and two misdemeanor counts of Simple Battery. After four days in jail, records show he was released on a $15,000 bond earlier today.
