Breaking: Explosion reported in Queens; Multiple NYPD Officers and Firefighter Injured

A domestic dispute escalated into a powerful gas-fueled explosion and massive five-alarm fire early Thursday morning, collapsing a home and injuring several first responders while displacing residents.

Authorities say NYPD officers responded to a 911 call around 3 a.m. on 130th Street for a report of a man forcing his way into a residence armed with a knife. The caller also reported smelling gas inside the home. As officers attempted to enter, a violent explosion occurred, throwing some officers off their feet and sparking a raging fire that spread to neighboring properties.

Seven NYPD officers and one firefighter sustained minor injuries, including burns and a head laceration requiring stitches. All are reported in stable condition.

Officials praised the rapid response by NYPD, FDNY, and EMS personnel, who worked under hazardous conditions to rescue residents and contain the blaze. Nearly 300 first responders were involved in the operation.

Displaced residents — at least 16 people affected — are receiving assistance, including support from the Red Cross. Teams continue debris removal and searches at the collapsed site as investigators work to determine if anyone remains unaccounted for. The suspect in the original dispute remains unaccounted for.

The investigation is ongoing.
