It was over in 24 hours, with a clever police operation: A haredi resident of Crown Heights briefly left his personal bag on Troy Avenue, only to return and find it gone. Inside were his most valuable possessions, his passport, his tefillin, his laptop, and other personal items.
According to a report by Shchuna News, the bag's owner didn't panic. Instead, he immediately opened his laptop's tracking app. The digital signal picked up the location and pointed to the Marine Park area of Brooklyn. Initial attempts to scan the area and locate the bag on his own were unsuccessful.
Police then entered the picture. The following night, the haredi resident joined investigators from the NYPD's 63rd Precinct. The detectives managed to locate the suspect's vehicle in the area and devised a particularly creative operation to bring him directly to them: Officers called the suspect and informed him that someone had hit his parked car from behind and he needed to come downstairs immediately.
