A deal in Tehran

Saudi Pledge to Iran on Territory and Airspace

Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman delivered the message at a meeting in Tehran • Saudi Arabia expects Iran to refrain from targeting the kingdom in return

Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman

Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman told Iran that no attacks against the Islamic Republic will originate from Saudi territory or airspace. In return, Saudi Arabia expects Iran not to target the kingdom. Open Source Intel reported the message, and no other outlet has independently confirmed the account.

The minister conveyed the message during a meeting in Tehran. Pakistan and Turkey also took part in the discussions.

The three-country format had been announced in advance. As JFeed reported on October 26, Ali Bagheri Kani, deputy secretary of Iran's top security body, said on state television that senior security officials from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey would come to Tehran for consultations on regional security with Iran's Supreme National Security Council. The delegation he named included Prince Khalid bin Salman, Pakistani army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin.

On November 2, the Wall Street Journal reported that Gulf Arab states had warned Tehran they could retaliate, jointly or individually, if Iran struck their infrastructure. That report cited mediators who described the warning. As JFeed reported, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar held security drills to prepare for possible Iranian attacks, while negotiations between Washington and Tehran have stalled.
