Exiled Iranian crown prince Reza Pahlavi called for the complete dismantling of Iran’s ruling system and positioned himself as a leader for a future democratic transition during remarks at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Texas.
Speaking to an audience at the annual gathering, Pahlavi said that “a free Iran is within reach,” while arguing that the current moment presents a historic opportunity to bring down the Islamic Republic.
He laid out a vision of Iran as a future regional partner of both the United States and Israel, including the possibility of normalized relations with Jerusalem. Pahlavi proposed expanding existing regional normalization efforts into what he termed the “Cyrus Accords,” referencing the ancient Persian ruler Cyrus the Great.
The speech drew a sharp contrast between that vision and the current Iranian leadership, which Pahlavi accused of widespread repression, including persecution of religious minorities and political opponents.
On the economic front, he argued that a post-Islamic Republic Iran could become a major strategic and economic partner for Washington, describing the country as an “untapped” opportunity due to its population size and human capital.
Pahlavi also addressed reports that the United States may consider negotiating with elements of Iran’s current leadership, warning against any arrangement that leaves the existing system in place.
“The Islamic Republic cannot reform itself,” he said, arguing that partial agreements would only delay future conflict rather than resolve underlying tensions.
He further claimed that recent unrest inside Iran demonstrated the potential for internal change, pointing to widespread protests earlier this year. According to Pahlavi, any final shift in power would ultimately come from within Iranian society.
Pahlavi confirmed he has accepted calls to play a leading role in a potential transition, describing efforts to build a broad coalition that includes both monarchists and republicans.
His remarks come amid ongoing conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States, as well as continued uncertainty over whether diplomatic efforts could bring the fighting to an end.
