The Jordanians also noted in the proposal that they are concerned with the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and its consequences for the civilian population, comprised largely of children. Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan attacked the letter, saying it entirely ignores Hamas’ existence and makes no mention of it or the massacre it carried out. According to Erdan, the proposal is one-sided and detached from reality, calling for an immediate cease-fire and not addressing rocket fire against Israel or the country’s right to defend itself at all.
