A six-year-old boy has died after allegedly being beaten by his teacher at a private school in the Indian city of Visakhapatnam, according to local authorities. The child, identified as Pranay Teja, had reportedly failed to complete his homework assignments.
The boy's family says the teacher struck him with a stick, and he collapsed shortly afterward. Security camera footage from the school shows the teacher hitting the child, who then falls into her arms moments later. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The boy's father insisted his son was in perfect health when he left home that morning. "He was playing happily the night before and woke up feeling fine," the father said. He claimed the child "collapsed on the spot from the shock and fear" after being struck with the stick.
Local police have launched an investigation into the incident, and the boy's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The regional education department described the incident as "deeply distressing and painful" and has established a special committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
