Spanish blackout: No sign of cyberattack - yet
While there is no clear sign that the massive blackout in Spain and Portugal were caused by a cyber attack, it is still too early to tell, as authorities work hard to restore power to the Iberian Peninsula.

A massive blackout has hit both Spain and Portugal today (Monday), as social media is a buzz with speculation as to the cause.
Accounts on X are accusing multiple culprits for the electricity crash, from overreliance on solar and wind power to the lack of connectivity to the general European electric grid.
Many are also wondering whether the blackout is due to a cyberattack from a hostile country - whether it be Russia, which opposes NATO, or even Israel, due to Spain's recognition of a Palestinian state and its imposition of an arms embargo on the county due to the war in Gaza.
A "top official," specifically European Commission Executive Vice President Teresa Ribera, a former top minister in the Spanish government, speaking to POLITICO said that there was presently no sign of sabotage or a cyberattack.
POLITICO also noted that major power outages had previously occurred in European countries due to seemingly minor harms to the grid such as power lines being felled by a tree.
