The USS George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group is heading to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility, fully certified and ready for major combat operations near Iran.
Sources tell CBS News the Nimitz-class carrier and its escorts left Norfolk this week after completing Composite Training Unit Exercise (COMPTUEX) earlier this month — the final certification for high-intensity warfighting. U.S. officials say the deployment will bolster American naval power in the Middle East as operations against Iran continue.
