The dramatic deception operation and secret aircraft swap involving US President Donald Trump during his visit to Turkey last month stemmed from a far more serious and immediate security threat than previously disclosed. A New York Times report now reveals the intelligence details that prompted the urgent decision to extract the president.

According to official sources, American intelligence intercepted multiple streams of information during the final day of the NATO summit on July 8, 2026. The intelligence included a report of an individual spotted near the summit area carrying a shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missile, alongside a specific threat of a surface-to-air missile strike targeting the aircraft scheduled to transport the president.

The intelligence further indicated that Iranian operatives possessed highly precise information about Trump's whereabouts in Ankara, including the specific floor where he was staying in the building. The severity of the intelligence and its assessed credibility led the president and his senior advisers to execute an extraordinary extraction operation to safely remove him from Turkish territory.

As previously reported, Trump boarded the old presidential aircraft in front of cameras while declaring he was doing so "for old times' sake" to create a false impression. He was then secretly smuggled inside an airport catering container and transferred to a military aircraft, which he used to depart Turkey. The incident occurred against the backdrop of previous assassination attempts against him.
