At least eight people have been killed following severe flash flooding in Nepal's Rasuwa district, located near the country's border with Tibet. Local police reported extensive damage to infrastructure throughout the region, with entire villages swept away by the rushing waters.
According to local media reports, the flooding appears to have been triggered by snowmelt from mountain peaks in the area, which flowed into the Bhote Koshi River that runs from Tibet into Nepal. The disaster has caused widespread power outages and communication disruptions across the affected region.
Narendra Priyar, the governor of Rasuwa district, issued an urgent call for residents, particularly those living along the riverbanks, to evacuate their homes immediately and move to higher ground. He cautioned that "there may be more casualties and damage than authorities have currently reported, but it's still impossible to determine this with certainty."
