U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's return to Britain during an interview with GB News, offering sharp criticism of the couple while heaping praise on King Charles.
While Trump said he was "happy" about the Sussexes' return to the United Kingdom, he made clear that if he were in the monarch's position, he would not have been quick to welcome them back. The president described King Charles as "fantastic" and called him "a friend of mine," noting that their relationship dates back to before Charles ascended to the throne.
But Trump's tone shifted markedly when the conversation turned to Harry. The president said there have been "too many terrible things" surrounding the couple. He specifically criticized Harry's memoir and suggested that Meghan has been a harmful influence on her husband.
"He wrote a book that was so bad," Trump said, adding that in his view, Meghan has been "a terrible influence" on the prince and that her actions toward him are "not acceptable."
Trump's comments come as Harry and Meghan have made a surprising return to Britain after years of living in the United States.
This is not the first time Trump has publicly criticized Harry. He previously expressed surprise that the prince was invited to attend his father's coronation following the publication of his controversial and critical memoir, "Spare."
