Russia is ramping up defenses around its oil infrastructure following a sustained campaign of Ukrainian drone strikes. New footage from inside Russia shows massive metal nets and steel canopies being erected around refineries, storage tanks, and fuel facilities.
Over the past year, Ukraine has intensified deep-strike operations targeting Russian energy infrastructure. Several of these attacks have succeeded in shutting down facilities and damaging refining capacity and fuel supply chains.
One solution Russia has adopted is the construction of "protective cages" made from steel mesh. The nets are designed to interfere with small drones, causing them to detonate before making direct contact with critical infrastructure.
