Israel's UN Ambassador Praises Trump's General Assembly Speech

Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, responded to President Donald Trump's address at the opening of the UN General Assembly in New York, in which the president drew parallels between the September 11 attacks and the October 7 massacre and pledged that Iran would never possess nuclear weapons. In his remarks, Danon thanked Trump for the message conveyed in his speech and for his support of Israel in the fight against global terrorism.

"Thank you to President Trump for opening the General Assembly today with a clear message of strength and leadership," Danon said. "The U.S. and Israel share common values and a deep alliance. The Abraham Accords proved that courageous leadership can transform the Middle East, together we will continue to fight the axis of evil and expand the circle of peace."

In his UN address, Trump addressed tensions with Iran, stating: "Right now I have a big decision: Does Iran get a deal that will allow it to become the strongest country in the Middle East, or do I completely destroy the Islamic Republic quickly? Do I send them to hell, or not? But I believe we'll reach a deal right after the midterm elections, because there's no reason we shouldn't do it. They're waiting to see the election results, but I'm not in a hurry. I'll still be here for another two and a half years. The elections are not a consideration for me when it comes to Iran, because I'm not even running in them. We'll reach a solution with Iran, one way or another."

According to Trump, "The Iranians were a major threat, they were the bully of the Middle East. But they're no longer threatening anyone today. From my first day in politics I promised I wouldn't let them hold nuclear weapons. I offered to negotiate with them, but they refused. And that was a big mistake."

Trump made clear that "Iran's goal was to race to a nuclear bomb, under the umbrella of their ballistic missiles. If they had succeeded, they could have done whatever they wanted. After I gave them every possible opportunity for a deal, I acted to ensure that no American would have to be threatened by Iran."

"The U.S. will no longer allow threats to America to gain a foothold anywhere in the Western Hemisphere," he pledged. "If necessary, we will use our unmatched military power to defend our vital national interests."
