President Donald Trump used profanity-laced language at a Saturday campaign rally in Ohio, attacking Democratic Party members in front of millions watching the live broadcast.
During his speech, Trump called Democrats "f***ed up," and promised supporters a decisive midterm victory: "If you go out and vote, we're going to [expletive]."
Alongside the profanity, Trump issued a direct warning to Ohio residents. He claimed that maintaining Republican control would ensure Ohio officials have a direct line to his administration for federal funding, but made clear he would be far less willing to help if Democrats win. Referring to Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton, Trump stated bluntly: "If she wins, I'm not going to help her."
The rally, held before party officials including Senator John Husted and gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, was designed to bolster Republican candidates ahead of the tight November midterm elections. Husted is running in a close race against former Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown, while Ramaswamy faces Acton.
Trump's sharp attacks come against a backdrop of declining poll numbers and approval ratings, driven in part by ongoing inflation, fuel prices that have risen 35% in Ohio over the past year, and the continuing US and Israeli conflict with Iran. Brown's campaign responded to the event with harsh criticism of Husted, accusing him of prioritizing corporations and billionaires over state residents.
