President Donald Trump announced a surprise agreement between Russia and Ukraine under which both sides will stop attacking each other's energy and oil infrastructure, removing those facilities from the battlefield.
The announcement came after Trump applied significant public pressure on Ukraine, going so far as to call for the replacement of President Volodymyr Zelensky following Ukrainian strikes on Russian diesel production facilities that contributed to rising fuel prices worldwide.
The mutual non-attack deal marks a partial de-escalation in the war, though fighting continues on other fronts. Neither Moscow nor Kyiv has yet issued an official statement confirming the arrangement.
