Toddler rescued after dangling from 12th-floor window in China

A toddler was rescued on Saturday in Zhangping, Fujian province in southeastern China, after she was found hanging outside a 12th-floor apartment balcony, gripping metal railings with her hands and feet.

Video distributed by China's Xinhua news agency shows the child suspended beyond the railing, holding on with both hands and legs wrapped around the security bars. Any slip could have ended in a fatal fall, and neighbors who spotted her immediately began working to keep her alive.

Two men from the 11th floor leaned out of windows directly below where the girl was hanging. With others holding them from behind, they extended a small stool outward and positioned it under her feet, giving her a platform to rest on and preventing her from losing her grip.

At the same time, firefighters called to the scene worked to gain entry to the apartment. When it became clear the rescue could not be completed from outside, the crew forced open the apartment door, reached the child and brought her back inside to safety.

According to reports in Chinese media, the girl had been alone in the home during the morning hours. The full circumstances of the incident remain unclear, and authorities have not explained how she ended up outside the balcony, suspended from the railings.

The child was not injured in the incident, according to reports. The video shows how the quick response of neighbors, combined with the work of rescue teams, prevented her from falling from the dangerous height.
