While millions of Americans headed to polling stations for the midterm elections, three American crew members aboard the International Space Station exercised their democratic right from roughly 400 kilometers above the planet.
Astronaut Anil Menon posted a video on X documenting the unusual voting process from orbit.
The astronauts received a secure electronic ballot, filled it out using a laptop computer, and transmitted it back to election officials in the United States through NASA's encrypted communications system.
Menon said he voted in the Texas elections, adding that all three American crew members aboard the station participated in the vote from space.
Despite the striking images, voting from space is not new: NASA has enabled astronauts to cast ballots from orbit since 1997, when astronaut David Wolf became the first to vote while stationed aboard Russia's Mir space station.
