Government formation

"Netanyahu trembling with fear this happens"

Former protest activist Itzik Elrov calls on opposition leaders not to form unity government under Netanyahu, says minority government would succeed and end PM's political career

Communications adviser Itzik Elrov addressed the options for forming a government on Wednesday, calling on opposition leaders not to establish a unity government with Netanyahu and adding that if Shas thinks clearly, it should join a government with the change bloc.

According to Elrov, despite statements by many right-wing figures that the left should be allowed to form a minority government with the Arab parties in order to cause the bloc to collapse, Netanyahu understands the trap in such a government and fears the possibility that it will actually happen.

"If a minority government will fall within two months and the public will be furious at whoever formed it, as all the 'trumpets' claim, why exactly is Netanyahu fighting so hard to prevent its formation? He should do the opposite. Let it be formed, wait two months for it to fall, and then return in a landslide. Without owing anyone favors," Elrov wrote, adding: "If this really will be such a fragile and weak government --- Netanyahu should pray they go for this move."

"The thing is that Netanyahu understands exactly what will happen the moment a government is formed without him. His bloc breaks into pieces. True, this government will start as a minority government but it will expand faster than you think and then his bloc will fall apart. Such a government can last much longer than they're trying to scare you into believing."

"Netanyahu knows this. He knows that such a move ends his political career, that's why he's fighting it with all his strength. This is exactly what he's trembling with fear about. Some of the change bloc party leaders are still afraid to go for this move out of concern that such a government will fall, Netanyahu is under insane pressure because he knows it will succeed."
