UTJ screens Netanyahu ahead of mandate

Prime Minister tries to rally coalition parties before today's presidential recommendations, but United Torah Judaism won't take his calls

Benjamin Netanyahu

Ahead of today's (Wednesday) recommendations to President Isaac Herzog on who should receive the mandate to form a government, Prime Minister Netanyahu is working to close ranks and unite the right-wing bloc behind him.

Shas announced last night that it will back Netanyahu, but United Torah Judaism said it will abstain from recommending anyone.

According to a report by Michael Shemesh, the Prime Minister's Office has been trying to convince UTJ to reverse its position at the last minute and recommend Netanyahu. Calls were placed to Yaakov Asher and to Moshe Goldknopf, but Goldknopf has not answered calls from the Prime Minister's Office over the past 24 hours.
