In a major strategic shift, a new analysis of President Donald Trump’s emerging Iran policy suggests that the U.S. has moved beyond the "nuclear dossier" to a broader objective: destabilizing the regime itself.

According to Sagiv Asulin, a former senior security official and researcher at the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs (JCFA), the Trump administration is no longer focused solely on "the project" (nuclear or missile programs) but has pivoted toward challenging the existence of the Ayatollah regime.

Asulin identifies several indicators of this shift:

While the U.S. and Iran have recently engaged in indirect talks in Geneva and Oman, Asulin views these as a tactical stage. He estimates that Washington will present conditions so stringent, such as permanent bans on uranium enrichment and an end to regional proxy support, that the Iranian leadership will find them impossible to accept.

"This will eventually lead to a confrontation," Asulin predicts. The goal of such a confrontation would not be a single blow, but the creation of conditions that allow the Iranian people to rise against their leaders.

The urgency of this shift is underscored by recent military movements. Trump has reportedly authorized the deployment of a second aircraft carrier group (the USS Gerald R. Ford) to join the USS Abraham Lincoln in the region. This follows Operation Midnight Hammer in June 2025, which targeted Iranian enrichment sites at Natanz and Fordow.

With regional tensions at a peak and the U.S. military presence surging, Asulin warns that the "window of opportunity" is narrowing. The combination of diplomatic ultimatums, economic isolation, and massive military buildup indicates that the moment of decision regarding the Iranian regime is rapidly approaching.
