The US Marshals Service has joined the search for actor and director Timothy Busfield after an arrest warrant was issued for him in New Mexico on charges of child sexual abuse, authorities confirmed this week.
The Albuquerque Police Department said it is working alongside federal marshals to locate Busfield and take him into custody. Police spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos said there is currently no timeline for his arrest.
Busfield, 68, is wanted on two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse. According to the arrest warrant, the alleged offenses involve a pair of 11-year-old twins and are said to have occurred while Busfield was working as a director on the television series The Cleaning Lady in 2024.
Court documents state that one of the alleged victims told investigators that the inappropriate conduct began years earlier, when he and his brother were seven years old. The investigation was launched in November 2024 after a physician at the University of New Mexico Hospital alerted authorities to suspected sexual abuse and grooming involving the minors.
Police initially declined to press charges, but the case was reopened in September 2025 after one of the boys disclosed to a counselor and pediatrician that Busfield had touched him inappropriately. Investigators allege that Busfield encouraged the children to call him “Uncle Tim” and engaged in physical contact such as tickling their legs, stomachs, and lower body.
In a phone interview with investigators in November, Busfield reportedly acknowledged that physical contact with the children was “highly likely” but denied remembering specific incidents or any sexual intent. He also claimed that the children’s mother was seeking retaliation after the boys were not invited back for the show’s final season, an allegation cited in the warrant.
Authorities say Busfield remains at large, and the US Marshals Service has now been brought in to assist in locating him.
Busfield has had a decades-long career in film, television, and theater, with hundreds of acting, producing, and directing credits. He is especially well known for portraying journalist Danny Concannon on The West Wing, where he appeared as a recurring character closely connected to the White House press operation.
The allegations remain under investigation.
