Reserve soldiers serving in a medical company along Israel's northern border find themselves in an absurd and demoralizing situation: they are required to cross into Lebanon and evacuate wounded soldiers under enemy fire, yet several months ago they were downgraded from 'Grade A' combat status to 'Grade B,' with no explanation provided, despite their mission remaining unchanged.

The 'Grade A' designation is reserved for soldiers serving in dangerous roles that involve crossing borders, and it determines eligibility for benefits and compensation for those serving in high-risk positions. These reservists were downgraded without warning, even as they continue performing the exact same hazardous duties.

Evacuating Wounded Under Rocket Alerts

Last Thursday, the situation came to a head when the soldiers evacuated wounded personnel at Rosh Hanikra under active rocket alert warnings. According to a report this morning on Kan News, the incident highlighted the dangerous reality these reservists face daily.

"We are constantly on high alert," stated N., a soldier serving in the unit. "We cross the border to evacuate casualties and we're under constant threat from drones and UAVs. It's insulting and shows they're disrespecting our lives."

Complaints Ignored, IDF Promises Review

The reservists raised the issue with their commanders but received no satisfactory response.

An IDF spokesperson responded to the Kan News report, stating: "The matter is under review. As part of the process, we are considering an option for these forces to participate in activities that would allow them to be included in the grade classification."

However, as the soldiers themselves note, they are already participating in precisely the type of activities that should qualify them for Grade A status, border crossings and casualty evacuations under hostile fire.

Intense Operations Continue in the North

Operational activity along the northern border remains intense. The IDF continues conducting extensive strikes against Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon, destroying weapons depots and launch sites prepared for firing.

Soldiers on the ground, including the medical company personnel, face constant danger. They operate in areas where Hezbollah continues violating ceasefire agreements, launching explosive drones and rockets at Israeli forces and Israeli territory. Recent incidents include multiple casualties from drone and mortar attacks during operations deep inside Lebanese territory.

The central question remains: why are soldiers who risk their lives daily, cross international borders, and evacuate wounded under fire not receiving the recognition and benefits they are entitled to according to military standards?
