An Israeli civilian contractor was killed Tuesday morning when a Hezbollah explosive drone struck engineering equipment he was operating in the southern Lebanese village of Aytaroun. The victim's 19-year-old son, who was working alongside his father, sustained shrapnel wounds in the attack and was evacuated to Ziv Medical Center in Tzfat.

The deceased, an employee of a contracting company performing engineering operations on behalf of the Defense Ministry, was pronounced dead at the scene. Israeli police notified his family of the tragedy, while the IDF and Defense Ministry expressed condolences to the bereaved relatives.

"As part of IDF and security forces' activities in southern Lebanon, an employee of a contracting company carrying out engineering work on behalf of the Defense Ministry was killed earlier today," an IDF spokesperson stated. "His family has been notified by Israeli police. The IDF and Defense Ministry share in the family's grief."

Son Treated for Physical and Psychological Trauma

Medical personnel at Ziv Medical Center described the harrowing circumstances surrounding the younger victim's treatment. The 19-year-old resident of Shfar'am arrived at the trauma unit suffering from minor shrapnel injuries but experiencing severe anxiety and acute psychological distress following the death of his father before his eyes.

"Upon arrival, he was brought to the trauma room where he received treatment from a multidisciplinary team," hospital officials noted in a statement. "His physical condition was classified as light, however he suffered from anxiety symptoms and acute mental distress following the incident. The hospital's social services department accompanied the wounded individual and his family members, providing them with support and assistance."

After receiving medical care and stabilization, the young man was discharged to his home. The family, residents of the northern Arab-Israeli town of Shfar'am, now faces the dual burden of mourning and recovery.

Separate Drone Attack Wounds Two IDF Soldiers

In a related incident disclosed Tuesday morning, the IDF confirmed that two soldiers were wounded Monday during operational activities in southern Lebanon when an explosive drone detonated near their position. One soldier sustained critical injuries while a second was lightly wounded. Both were evacuated to medical facilities and their families have been notified.

"The soldiers were evacuated to receive medical treatment at a hospital and their families have been updated," the IDF spokesperson clarified. "This constitutes a violation of the ceasefire understandings by the Hezbollah terror organization."

The attacks represent a continuation of Hezbollah's escalating use of kamikaze drones against Israeli forces and civilian contractors operating in the border region. These small, explosive-laden unmanned aerial vehicles have emerged as a persistent threat despite ceasefire arrangements, with some variants employing fiber-optic guidance systems that render traditional electronic countermeasures ineffective.

Growing Drone Threat Challenges IDF Defenses

The deadly incidents underscore the evolving tactical challenges facing Israeli forces in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah has dramatically increased its deployment of first-person-view explosive drones in recent weeks, with military sources reporting more than two dozen strikes against IDF personnel and armored vehicles. These low-cost weapons, often carrying RPG warheads, have proven difficult to detect and intercept using conventional air defense systems.

In response to the mounting threat, the IDF Ground Forces Command has established specialized task forces dedicated to developing countermeasures against low-altitude aerial threats. Major General Nadav Lotan, Commander of the Ground Forces, has initiated comprehensive efforts to address technological and doctrinal gaps that have left ground units vulnerable to these attacks.

The Defense Ministry has not yet released the identity of the civilian contractor killed in Tuesday's attack, pending completion of family notifications. The incident marks a tragic reminder of the risks faced by both military personnel and civilian support staff operating in the volatile border region, even amid ostensible ceasefire arrangements.

Israeli officials have characterized the attacks as clear violations of ceasefire understandings, though Hezbollah has continued to employ drone warfare tactics imported from Ukraine's battlefield, where similar weapons have transformed modern combat dynamics.
