The Joint List's Price

Joint List Sets Terms for Backing Netanyahu Rival

Joint List chairman Yousef Jabareen offers parliamentary backing to a government replacing Netanyahu • His terms include a funded anti-crime plan and an end to home demolitions

Joint List chairman Yousef Jabareen has declared that his party is prepared to give parliamentary support to any government that replaces Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. His conditions include a diplomatic path toward the establishment of a Palestinian state. Yeshiva World News reported that he laid out the terms in a video statement released ahead of the October 27 Knesset elections.

Arutz Sheva described the declaration as the first time Jabareen has officially committed the faction to such a role.

The offer is for support from outside the government. The Joint List could vote in favor of a proposed government or abstain in a confidence vote. Either step would allow an opposition coalition to take office without formally bringing the party into the government.

"After the elections, we will impose our conditions on any political configuration in Israel," Jabareen said. "We have complete freedom of action, without restrictions, to replace the Netanyahu government, and we will use every tool at our disposal."

Jabareen stressed that the support would not be unconditional and that the party would seek specific commitments in return. He named three demands:

A clearly defined, fully funded plan to combat crime in Arab society; an end to the policy of home demolitions; a genuine diplomatic path toward the establishment of a Palestinian state

Several major opposition leaders have already ruled out that kind of arrangement. In February, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett stated that since October 7, there is no mandate for a government that relies on Arab parties. Earlier this month, Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Liberman declared that no coalition will be formed with the Arab parties.

The Joint List has faced scrutiny earlier in this campaign. On October 1, Joint List MK Sami Abu Shehadeh resigned from the Knesset after the High Court (Bagatz) signaled it would disqualify him over an article praising the Hamas massacre.
